FitzGerald and Browne Lawyers is a small, specialist firm.
When FitzGerald and Browne Lawyers opened in 2001 we made a deliberate choice not to represent big industry. We chose instead to focus on providing services to individuals, families and small associations and charities. This focus has largely continued through to the present day. We have a strong commitment to social justice and environmental issues and we endeavour to provide efficient, affordable services to our clients.
As specialists in Family Law we can assist you in all family matters, including divorce, property and children’s issues, financial agreements and child safety proceedings. Our solicitors appear regularly in the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the Magistrates Court of Tasmania as well as before various tribunals. Our solicitors are also able to assist with your wills and estate matters and property conveyancing.
We have expertise in civil litigation, including Commonwealth workers’ compensation claims, environment and planning and anti-discrimination.
We also represent clients facing criminal charges in the Magistrates Court of Tasmania and the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
We believe in taking our work seriously, not ourselves, and we pride ourselves on being a family oriented firm with a commitment to providing professional services that recognise and meet the diverse individual needs of our clients with respect and integrity.

Roland works in the civil and criminal areas, including administrative review, anti-discrimination, environment and planning and federal workers’ compensation.
In the criminal area he once had a busy practice defending forest protesters and other civilly disobedient people. That area or practice went quiet after the forest agreement was reached in 2013. That may well all change as the State Liberal Government is doing its best to open up contentious forest areas and to introduce a new range of offences to curtail the activities of forest protestors.
Roland is also the chair of Gun Control Australia.
Having practiced law in Tasmania for over thirty-five years, Tony is highly experienced as both solicitor and counsel.
